Well this is the pre history of Rurouni kenshin. This show was a VERY different approach to Kenshin then the TV show. This shows kenshin not as the goof Kenshin but as the cutthroat killer Himura Battosai. The series starts off with Kenshins little family gets horrible slaughtered but he alone is spared when his master comes and saves him. He then trains him to be a killer with a sword but for GOOD not evil. After kenshin becomes somewhat older he decides to disobey his master and joins a side in the growing Meiji revolution conflict. So basically he proves himself and becomes his sides top assassin.
But during one of his "jobs" a civilian see's him and he doesn't want to kill her (cause he is a P.I.M.P BLING BLING) so basically his little political party is like "SAY WHAT!!!!" and are left to think about what to do. That night during their meeting the Shinsen Gumi's attack and kill like all of them. This is VERY bad because that means one of them is a double agent working for the other side... So they go into hiding. They decide to send kenshin off with the girl to become a farm couple while hiding. Later you learn it was one of Kenshins buddies that have been tipping the enemy off to where everyone is hiding. So you are kinda like "O DIP KENSHIN BE IN DIS REAL DEEP!!!" Kenshin is told that it was actually whats her face one day when he goes to market at the village and he is pissed! Kenshin goes back to his shack only to encounter numerous traps along the way but you know hes going to live cause the TV show was released before this. He gets up there and kills some dudes. There he gets into a fight with an ace swordsman and only wins cause whats her face takes a slash. Kenshin then kinda kills him. Now kenshin is sad cause his wife person is dieing. Now the creators had to fulfill the promise they made throughout the entire OVA production to answer the question, WHERE DID KENSHIN GET HIS SCAR FROM!!! So for unknown reasons his wife person takes a dagger and cuts his check so it makes a cross with his other scar on his face.
