Ok so like a billion years ago (1963) the first giant robot ever was born Tetsugin 28 and nobody really cared. But then in 1972 Mazinger-Z was created this gave birth to the branch of giant robots called super robots. After like 200 more super robot shows one wierdo named Tomino who made such shows as Zambot 3 and Raideen decided "hey Im going to make a show where giant robots weren't like super heroes but tools of war" He thus named it Gunboy but that name was already taken SOO it was called gundam
Ok well now gundam was some freak child of the giant robot family and made the branch of giant robots called real robots. BUT even if it made it, It was still very super robotish. Like Amuro's dad made a giant ALL powerful robot and amuro pilots it and the bad guys robots are very ugly and they have the robot of the week formula. But it was still a real robot show.
